Nautilus is a generative resonant instrument built from three sound fields, a six-voice resonator and eight evolving Currents. Rather than sequencing fixed notes, it lets sound sources, resonance and modulation drift together over time.
Fields
Field A — TONE is a fixed bordun layer: it does not follow Harmony or Root Drift. It starts as pure sine for the first half of its range, then morphs in triangle, bipolar pulse and noise. Gaps runs from continuous tone at 0 to increasingly fragmented phrases at 100. PERC replaces the sustained field with an irregular kick/snare source; its child control becomes Density.
Field B — discrete tonal notes using sine and triangle, following the active harmonic setting.
Field C — PURE follows the selected Harmony as a moving sine-note source. 3SINE is a fixed bordun layer made from three slightly detuned sine oscillators and does not follow Harmony or Root Drift. Density sets how often new C tones begin; at 0 no new C tones are generated. A, B and C are the actual sound sources; if all three are at zero, Nautilus is silent.
Interaction
Interaction — moves the Fields from additive blending toward multiplication/ring modulation; high settings introduce folding.
Body — controls the main low-pass filter and therefore the overall brightness and weight.
Drive — adds distortion after the main filter.
Spin — continuously rotates the stereo image; higher values increase both depth and speed.
Resonance
Resonance — blends in the six-delay resonator bank. The Character menu changes the interval structure, detuning and tonal behaviour of the resonator.
Reso Tune — transposes the complete resonator bank from −24 to +24 semitones.
Space
Distance — shifts the direct presentation from near toward more distant and diffuse.
Space — controls stereo width through a short Haas delay.
Reverb — controls the convolution reverb independently; at zero the reverb path is fully dry.
Currents
Eight evolving modulation gestures run at different loop lengths. Click a Current to select it. Amount sets its depth, Target chooses what it moves, and Draw lets you redraw the gesture directly in the Current map. Currents control the existing Fields and parameters; they are not independent sound sources.
Evolution
Flow — global speed multiplier for all Currents.
Erosion — increases mutation of a Current from loop to loop.
Memory — pulls an evolving Current back toward its original gesture.
Age — gradually pushes selected sound parameters toward a new long-term state.
Generation
Events — increases how often active Fields B and C are retriggered; it does not generate a separate sound source.
Sparsity — deepens the internal intensity valleys and creates more contrast between active and restrained moments.
Harmony — moves the tonal gravity from looser/chromatic material through major toward minor.
Playing
Play starts and stops the generative system. Randomize creates a new combination of Fields, processing, harmonic settings and resonator Character. Load and Save recall or store a Nautilus patch as a local file. Master controls the final output level.
