Whale is a wide, expressive dream synth — polyphonic, characterful and lush, with deep control over oscillators, filters, envelopes and space. Its sound follows the grand Yamaha machines of the 1970s, whose lonely, luminous tones shaped the atmosphere of several iconic films.

OscillatorsWave A — moves oscillator A from sawtooth toward pulse. Pulse Width A — changes the symmetry and harmonic colour of oscillator A’s pulse wave. Level A — sets oscillator A’s volume. Wave B — moves oscillator B from sawtooth toward pulse. Pulse Width B — changes the symmetry and harmonic colour of oscillator B’s pulse wave. Level B — sets oscillator B’s volume. Detune B — offsets oscillator B in cents for beating and width. Ring — multiplies both oscillators to create metallic, inharmonic overtones. Song — introduces delayed vibrato after a note begins. PWM — slowly modulates pulse width for soft movement. Noise — blends noise into each voice.
FilterSurface — high-pass cutoff; removes low frequencies and thins the sound. Depth — low-pass cutoff; controls overall brightness. Glint — adds resonance and emphasis around the filter cutoff. Sweep Attack — time for the filter envelope to rise. Sweep Decay — time for the filter envelope to fall. Hull — adds a sine body after the filter for weight and depth.
EnvelopeAttack — time for the voice to reach full volume. Decay — time to move from the attack peak to sustain level. Sustain — held level while a note remains pressed. Release — fade-out time after releasing a note. Bloom — opens the sound after key-on for a swelling response. Track — makes filter brightness follow keyboard pitch. Touch — controls how strongly velocity shapes the voice.
SpaceFlutter — adds slow and fast pitch instability, like worn tape motion. Ensemble — blends a three-line chorus for the classic wide polysynth texture. Wide — spreads voices across the stereo field. Reverb — sets the amount of spacious ambience. Bit — introduces digital grain and resolution loss. Output — controls the final instrument level.
PlayingUse Play to sustain the selected Root note. Choose the pitch from the Root menu. Connected MIDI devices appear automatically and play Whale polyphonically.
